Materials & Sustainability
For our products, we exclusively use local woods from sustainable, regional forestry (e.g. hornbeam, cherry, maple, ash, or olive). This protects the environment through short transport routes and preserves the forests. Each piece is truly unique due to its individual wood grain
Yes, for many of our hairbrushes, we use pure boar bristles (the so-called first cut). Boar bristles are very similar in structure to human hair. They optimally absorb excess sebum (scalp oil) and distribute it all the way to the hair ends. This is the most natural care for shine and against dry ends.
Note: For vegans, we also offer brushes with plant-based sisal or wooden pins.
Production and Craftsmanship
Yes! We, the Kost family, are continuing the tradition of comb-making for the fifth generation. Our family business is located in Windelsbach (Bavaria). From the freshly cut log to the finished product – many production steps such as cutting, sanding, and rounding the teeth are still lovingly done by hand in our own manufactory.
Application & Hair Care
It completely depends on your hair type:
- Curly, thick, or long hair: Coarse-toothed combs or brushes with widely spaced wooden pins are suitable here to prevent hair breakage or frizz.
- Fine, straight, or short hair: Finer-toothed combs or brushes with pure boar bristles are ideal here to create volume and shine.
Feel free to use our digital brush finder on the website to discover the perfect product for you!
Unlike plastic, wooden combs do not statically charge the hair ("flyaway hair"). In addition, the teeth of our combs are painstakingly rounded by hand and free of burrs. This gently massages the scalp, stimulates blood circulation, and protects the hair's cuticle compared to sharp-edged plastic combs.
Product Care & Cleaning
Dry Cleaning: Remove hair regularly with a brush cleaner or a coarse comb.
Wet Cleaning: If necessary, you can wash the bristles or the comb with lukewarm water and a mild, silicone-free shampoo. However, never fully submerge the wood in water and do not leave it wet.
Drying: Let the brush air dry bristles-down on a towel (do not place it on a heater!).
Care Tip: Occasionally rub the wood with a few drops of vegetable oil (e.g., olive oil) to keep it supple.
